Measuring Electroweak Quantum Numbers of Color Sextet Resonances at the LHC

We study the prospect of measuring the electroweak quantum numbers of beyond the Standard Model (SM) color sextet particles that decay into same-sign top quark pairs. Among these particles, the color sextet scalars give rise to top quarks with the same chirality, while the top quarks coming from the color sextet vector would have opposite chirality. This difference gets encoded in the angular distributions of the bottom quarks and leptons originating from the decays of the top quarks. We utilize this feature and the energy distributions of the final state jets and leptons to distinguish among the three possible color sextet resonances, taking into account various SM background processes at the 1313 TeV LHC.Comment: 9 pages, 5 captioned figures, and 5 table

Hybrid Taguchi-GRA-CRITIC Optimization Method for Multi-Response Optimization of Micro-EDM Drilling Process Parameters

In this study, an attempt is made to investigate how the operational parameters such as capacitance, voltage, feed rate, and rotating speed affect the material removal rate, tool wear, overcut, and taper angle for micro-EDM drilling of aluminium 6061 utilizing brass C360 electrode. A novel Taguchi-GRA-CRITIC hybrid optimization methodology is used to obtain the optimal combination of micro-EDM drilling process parameters. The experiment was designed using the Taguchi L18 orthogonal array, and responses were recorded for each experiment. Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) is applied to improve the multi-response of the planned experiment. The weighting values corresponding to various responses are determined using CRITIC (criterion importance through intercriteria correlation) analysis. The hybrid methodology determines the best combination of process parameters for different responses. ANOVA was used to discover the most critical parameters. Finally, confirmation experiments were conducted with optimal parameters to identify improvement in grey relational grade over the initial parameters. The study\u27s findings indicate that, compared to the initial process parameter setting, the grey relational grade (GRG) increased by 92.36% with the optimal parameter setting

Objectives: Oral cancer is a worldwide phenomenon. It is thought to develop in a number of premalignant lesions. Protooncogene c fos is a known transformer of premalignant to malignant lesions. However, its role in oral carcinogenesis is not yet known. Study design: A total of 130 cases were studied comprising of premalignant lesions (n=50), squamous cell carcinoma (n=50) and controls (n=30). c fos expression was studied by immunohistochemistry. Results: Premalignant lesions of oral cavity occurred at a lower age group (mean 39.2 years) compared to squamous cell carcinoma (mean 51.8 years), p <0.001. Mean c fos percentage positivity in squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), premalignant lesions and controls was 44.5±36.9%, 11.4±18.8% and 1.23±2.6% respectively, the differences were highly significant (p<0.001). c fos positivity also increased from mild (10.85±14.23%) to moderate dysplasia (19.64 ±26.05%). Conclusions: The serially increasing c fos expression from normal mucosa to premalignant lesions to SCC and in dysplasias suggests that it could be an early gene to get activated and form transcription factor activator protein ?1(AP-1)

Impacts of climate change on rice production and strategies for adaptation in Chitwan, Nepal

This study was conducted to understand perception of farmers about climate change; how it affects rice production and what are the local adaptation strategies adopted by farmers to maintain rice yield in Chitwan district of Nepal. A total of 90 rainy season rice farming household were surveyed with semi-structured interview schedule. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS and MS Excel. Majority of the respondents (91.20%) perceived deviation in weather parameters in last 10 years. Most of the farmers had perceived drought as the major impact of climate change and nursery stage of rice to be highly prone to climate impact. Higher proportion of farmers had experienced delay in transplanting and harvesting time of paddy in last 10 years. Many farmers had already replaced local varieties by either improved or hybrid rice variety resilient to climate change. Increased insects infestation and weed menace along with outbreak of new types were found to be major production problem perceived by farmers at study area. Most of the respondents (50%) were expecting technical supports followed by infrastructure development (20.6%) from different organizations. Climate resilient projects and programs designed in bottom up approach to enhance understanding of impacts of climate change will help farmers to cope climate risk on rice production

Top polarization as a probe of new physics

5 pages, 4 figures (slightly modified), fixed typos, added acknowledgement Volume: 1200We investigate the effects of new physics scenarios containing a high mass vector resonance on top pair production at the LHC, using the polarization of the produced top. In particular we use kinematic distributions of the secondary lepton coming from top decay, which depends on top polarization, as it has been shown that the angular distribution of the decay lepton is insensitive to the anomalous tbW vertex and hence is a pure probe of new physics in top quark production. Spin sensitive variables involving the decay lepton are used to probe top polarization. Some sensitivity is found for the new couplings of the top.Peer reviewe

Lipid profile in oral submucous fibrosis

    Get PDF

Abstract

Background

Changes in lipid profile have long been associated with malignancies as lipids play a key role in maintenance of cell integrity. This study evaluated the alterations in extended lipid profile in untreated patients of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) and studied the correlation between lipid levels with tobacco consumption.

Materials and methods

In this hospital-based study, 65 clinically diagnosed and histopathologically proven patients of OSMF and 42 age and sex matched controls were studied. In these samples serum lipids including: (i) Total cholesterol, (ii) LDL cholesterol (LDLC), (iii) HDL cholesterol (HDLC) (iv) VLDL cholesterol (VLDLC) (v) triglycerides (vi) Apo-A1 (viii) Apo-B and (viii) LPa were analyzed.

Results

A significant decrease in plasma total cholesterol, HDLC and Apo-A1 was observed in patients with OSMF as compared to the controls. Thus an inverse relationship between plasma lipid levels and patients was found in OSMF.

Conclusion

The lower levels of plasma cholesterol and other lipid constituents in patients might be due to their increased utilization. The findings strongly warrant an in-depth study of alterations in plasma lipid profile in patients with oral precancerous conditions.</p
